Field Care Guide for your game

Birds-waterfowl:your field care starts the minute you pick up your bird. A few things you need to understand about your bird first.1. Maturity of the bird pin feathers. 2. Dog bites or loss of feathers from your dog. 3. Bird shot holes in head and body. 4. Broken bones-wings, legs will decide the pose-standing, sitting, flying. 5. Your mount will only be as good as the bird you choose. Field care and cleaning. 1. Handle your bird by the feet. 2. Rinse the excess blood off the bird. 3. tuck the head under the wing to protect feather loss. STORAGE OF YOUR BIRD Long Term Storage in Freezer: 1. Wrap head and feet with wet paper towels and double bag the bird with plastic bags only. 2. With your bird double bagged, place in refrigerator to keep bird cool. 3. Contact your taxidermist so we can determine if we think it is worth it to spend your money on your mount. Fresh Water Fishcare of your fish starts with the minute you catch it.Do's and Don'ts1.Don't put your fish in a wire basket ( this will damage the fins).2. Don't put fish on a stringer without going through the gills.3. Don't leave fish in direct sunlight or out of water (this will cook it or dry it out). keep it as cool and moist as possible4. If ice fishing, don't leave the fish out on the ice ( it will damage the fins and pull scales off the gill plate).5. Don't use newspaper or paper bags to wrap fish.6. Do keep fish in live well or bucket of cool water.7. Do keep fish wrapped in wet towels to keep it moist and wrapped in a plastic bag.Long Term storage of your fish1. Wrap in a wet towel2. Double bag with plastic bags only.3. Lay your fish in freezer flat.4.Fish stored correctly will keep for up to one year.Short Term Storage of your fish1. keep fish wet in cooler.2. Wrap in wet towels.3. Call your Taxidermist.Whitetail, Mule deer, Elk, Caribou, Antelope, MooseField Dressing your Trophy big game1. Hang your animal by its back legs off the ground.2. Take Your Sharp knife start between the ears and split your hide down the center of the back to the tail.3. Cut around the back legs and peel the hide down the front legs.4. Start where the dark and light hair meet on the front of the leg and run your knife up to the "arm-pit". Continue the cut from the "arm-pit" back to the stomach skin.5.Peel the hide down the front legs and the rest of the neck.6. Cut the neck off and call your taxidermist.For the best results call your Taxidermist and have them skin it for you. Remember time is important. If it is warm bacteria will begin to break down your hide and you risk loosing it. Keep the animal as cool as possible.
